Hello Burlesque Fans!
This year has started off with a bang! It seems that a lot of performers have a new years resolution to hone their craft, because we have a slew of classes available coming up! As well as a lot of great shows and opportunities to support some great producers!! Let’s see what’s coming up. It’s gonna be a very large list! I promise reading the whole thing will be worth it!
Upcoming Support Opportunities!
February (next month! So close!) is Black History month! And there will be all Black productions that would greatly benefit from an extra boost! Thee Black CrocoDahlia (a local Denver performer and producer) put this need VERY eloquently in their own words on a recent post, so I will quote it here:
“Last year I received SO much love and support for my BHM show and I think that show was so important because of the gap I saw in our community. I ended up being able to pay my performers 4 times what I guaranteed them. I am happy to say that this year all four shows I'm in this BHM have all Black casts including my own Black Joy Bash on February 8th in Denver!
I want to share a few ways that non-Black folks supported my first show so there can be more examples for those who don't know where to start. I also need support for this upcoming show, so please reach out and help where you can!
1. A non-Black producer gave up their February show to me and let me put on this event
2. A non-Black kitten volunteered to work for this crew of Black performers without pay.
3. Non-Black audience members donated tickets so that Black folks who could not afford them could still go.
4. Non-Black business owners donated items for raffle and goodie bags.
5. Non-Black performers and audience members are sharing and promoting the event.
6. Non-Black people who could not attend the day of the show sent tips digitally.
7. Non-Black people provided funds for show expenses and gift cards to Black-owned businesses for the raffle. These are just a few examples of how you can positively impact the Black burlesque community and ways to start if you truly desire diversity and equity in burlesque. There's so much work to be done in this area but we all gotta do what we can.”
Non-exhaustive list of all Black shows that could use your support:
Black Love Burlesque (Feb 1st, Colorado Springs): Reach out to Boujie Bitch on Instagram or BiTCHHAÜS Productions on FB
Black Croc’s Black Joy Bash (Feb 8th, Denver): Ticket link will be up soon, but you can DM Croc on Facebook or Instagram, email mediaforall93@gmail.com, or send monetary donations directly on Venmo.
Support by way of your money/resources/etc. is useful for productions featuring under-represented demographics all year round! Keep this list of ways to support in mind, even after February is over!
Class Opportunities!
THESE CLASSES ARE HAPPENING ALL OVER THE FRONT RANGE. PLEASE NOTE WHAT CITY THEY ARE IN SO YOU DON’T GET TOO DISAPPOINTED!
